The Indian Premier League has completed its 17th edition with the Kolkata Knight Riders emerging as the third-time champions. Now, the fans of the biggest cricket league in the world are awaiting the IPL 2025 Auction Date. This year’s auction will be a mega auction which was previously held in February 2022. In the previous edition, 332 plays from 13 countries participated in the 2024 mini-auction. IPL 2025 Auction Date & Time
The IPL 2025 Auction Date is yet to be finalized as there are numerous delays on player retention rules. However, the latest reports suggest that the IPL Mega Auction for the 18th edition may take place in the last week of November or in the initial weeks of December 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already postponed the IPL player retention policy which has resulted in a major delay in this year’s mega auction. At present, it is reported that the franchise owners have until November 15, 2024, to confirm their retained players.
Once the player retention is done, the officials will release the official date for the IPL 2025 Auction Date. As of now, the mega auction for the next edition of the Indian Premier League is likely to be held on December 15 and 16, 2024. However, fans will still need to wait for the official confirmation regarding the same. As for the timings for the auction, as usual, the auction will start in the afternoon at approximately 1:00 PM IST and will continue at the same time on the next day. IPL 2025 Auction Venue
The last year’s IPL mini auction was held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19, 2023. As of now, the official venue for the IPL 2025 Auction has not been revealed by the officials. However, the latest reports suggest that the much-awaited mega auction for the latest edition of the Indian Premier League will take place in the Middle East. As for the 84 match venues, the IPL 2025 will follow the same theme of home matches and away matches for each team. There were some changes in its 17th edition venues due to the assembly election, however, each team will have 7 matches at their home grounds in IPL 2025. The official venues are in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mohali, and Delhi.
IPL 2025 Auction Expected Retained Players
Usually, every franchise is allowed to retain three players before the Mega Auction as per the BCCI guidelines. However, it is estimated that the BCCI and the IPL officials make some amendments to the IPL player retention policy ahead of the 18th edition mega auction. If the reports are to be believed, every franchise may have the right to retain at least 3 to 5 players.
The rest of the players will be released for the auction that may take place in December 2024. Apart from that, the IPL officials may also re-include the Right to Match or RTM rule. IPL Auction 2025 Latest Updates
While the IPL Auction 2025 is a couple of months ahead, franchises have already started to shape their teams. Recently, two-time Cricket World Cup-winning former captain of Australis, Ricky Ponting was appointed as the head coach of Punjab Kings. Ricky Ponting has previously served as the head coach of Delhi Daredevils/Delhi Capitals from 2018-2024.
Moreover, the Rajasthan Royals have appointed Rahul Dravid as their head coach. During his term as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, India lifted the t20 World Cup in 2024 beating South Africa in the finals.
